Founded in 1975, the International Gemological Institute is one of the world’s largest independent gem certification laboratories, with offices across four continents. IGI doesn’t sell diamonds and doesn’t market them — its only job is to evaluate stones objectively under controlled laboratory conditions.

This is the report's opening statement: a factual record of the finished jewelry exactly as it arrived at the laboratory. It names the metal and its stated purity — sterling silver or solid gold — notes any hallmarks or engraving, and lists the total weight of the piece.
Crucially, it also identifies the stones themselves, confirming in writing that the diamonds are laboratory-grown. Together, these details give your EOBO piece a documented physical identity that can always be matched back to the report.
Here the report describes each mounted stone in gemological terms. Shape is the diamond's outline viewed from above — round, oval, pear, and so on — while cut refers to the faceting style, the arrangement of surfaces that governs how the stone gathers and returns light.
For an EOBO piece, this section is where design meets measurement: the silhouette you chose for its beauty, restated as verified characteristics an independent laboratory can stand behind.
Because your diamond is graded after it has been set, removing it from the mounting just to weigh it would risk damaging the finished piece. So the laboratory instead estimates carat weight from the stone's precise measurements and its setting, following established gemological method.
The result is a reliable, professional record of your diamond's size and value — captured without ever compromising the integrity of the design it lives in.
The comments section is where the laboratory shows its work. It records how and when the stones were graded — for instance, whether grading took place before or after setting — and notes any observations limited by the mounting itself.
You may also find remarks on client-stated details, metal information, and estimated ranges for cut, color, and clarity. Rather than fine print to skip, these notes are the clearest guide to reading your certificate honestly and accurately.
